After quitting our jobs, selling our furniture, saying goodbye to our dear families and friends and the wonderful city of Austin, TX, we have set out to travel the world, or at least as much of it as we can. We hope our experiences and photos reach everyone back home.

Time to Move On

Well, after a wonderful 2 and half weeks here in Buenos Aires, we are hitting the road. Tonight Mike and I are taking an overnight bus to the Iguazu Falls, where the borders of Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay meet. From what we hear, the waterfalls are quite amazing there. From there, we'll head on to Brazil and will hopefully be hitting some beaches soon! Then on to Cusco and Macchu Picchu in Peru and Chile.

Our time in Buenos Aires has been very nice, due largely in part to having a place to call home here (thanks Leti, Molly, & Zach!). We hope everyone has been checking out the photos on Flickr, as that seems to be the easiest way to show everyone our experiences here. Fortunately, we've had some nice weather...a bit chilly on some days, but the sky is always a beautiful blue. Super great for photos...you just can't look up for too long or you're bound to step in some dog poo on the sidewalks. It's everywhere and so we've become expert dog poo dodgers. For the most part, everyone here has been very friendly, especialy considering our lack of Spanish. We've been working on that though. We've taken some private Spanish lessons from a friend of a friend, Carlos, who in turn has become a good friend of ours, and that has helped a lot. Sometimes it's just the accent that impairs us. Many a cab driver has not understood what we were talking about, but we manage to make it everywhere that we want to go. And on a side note, yes, the cab drivers, or just drivers in general, are as crazy as you've heard. I'm extremely surprised that we have yet to see an accident, or a run-over pedestrian. It's actually quite an art the way they weave between lanes (or just drive in 2 lanes at once), cut off buses, honk at pedestrians trying to cross the street, ignore ambulances trying to get through....they mean business.

But anyway, I'm sure this is only the beginning taste of South American culture. And BA will probably be the high end of it. The nightlife here alone is well worth the trip. So many interesting bars, cafes, shops, and restaurants. They play a lot of American music (I've heard both the Arcade Fire and My Morning Jacket on the radio!). I think Mike has gotten his fill of beef...as least until we arrive back here in a few months. We won't have our laptops with us, but we'll do our best to hit up internet cafes along the way to keep this and our photo site updated. The plan for now is another 2 months in South America, and then fly out to New Zealand/South Pacific around the 1st of August.

We hope everyone is doing well. Feel free to email us or send photos from home. More to come soon!!
